CN has provided CIFFA with the following update on the labour negotiations with the TCRC.
“CN and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference – Conductors, Trainmen and Yardmen (TCRC-CTY) are scheduled to resume collective bargaining on Oct. 21, with the assistance of mediators appointed by the federal minister of labour. These mediators acted as conciliators during the conciliation process that ended Oct. 7.
While the earliest date for a strike or lockout is 0001 hours Oct. 29, CN remains optimistic that it can negotiate an amicable settlement with the TCRC-CTY to avoid labour disruption in Canada.
As matter of policy, CN does not comment on the substance of on-going labour negotiations. However, CN stresses that none of its bargaining proposals would in any way compromise the health and safety of TCRC-CTY members. Indeed, it is our opinion that CN’s proposals would positively affect the health and safety of our employees.”
